Australia: The giant nest of the Australian turkey
The largest nest in the world is built by a bird that lives in Australia, the brushturkey, a distant relative of giant birds that arrived in Australia when it became independent of supercontinent Gondwana. To carry out its laying, it must build a giant nest by piling leaves and letting them decompose, creating a microclimate with a temperature suitable for eggs. It is a rare and amazing nest at the same time because it is the largest nest in the world.
Nigeria: The hunting tribe Somba
In Africa lives a tribe that continues faithful to its customs using the hunt as main way to get food. They are the baribá or betamaribe, one of the oldest tribes of Africa.
To hunt they use bows with arrows impregnated with a deadly substance for the animal.
Hunting is also a way to demonstrate their intelligence and power.
The hunt is done by groups led by the chief of the tribe and can last a few weeks.
They hunt antelopes, zebras, monkeys, elephants, buffaloes, rabbits and all kinds of birds.
Cuba: The mangrove
This mangrove forest is one of the most beautiful places on the island. Mangrove water is a mixture of fresh and salty water. Plants have adapted to the lack of oxygen and easily reproduce, turning the swamp’s floor into a tangle of vegetation. In addition we can find reptiles, like snakes of all kinds, birds, crocodiles and great variety of fish and crustaceans.
Peru: The Chachapoyas
This mangrove forest is one of the most beautiful places on the island. Mangrove water is a mixture of fresh and salty water. Spain: Laguna de Villafáfila
A Spanish lagoon called Villafáfíla holds many secrets. Every year it is visited by migratory birds that pass through here on the way to Extremadura and Andalusia. The birds do call loudly when they sight the lagoon, they do it in order to stay together.
New Guinea: Tribe Asaro
In the islands of Papua live several tribes that have always been confronted. Most of these tribes believe in the spirits of the dead, in supernatural beings that live in the forest, and in other spirits called tomia that inhabit objects and may bring on bad luck. To defend themselves, the asaro dress up with clay masks on the head and long bamboo reeds, in the hands, like nails and go at night to frighten the neighboring tribes.
Caribbean: cenotes
Cenotes are freshwater wells created naturally by soil erosion and groundwater seepage.
The word cenote comes from the word dzonot in the language of the Mayas. Cenotes are found in Yucatan, Florida and Cuba.
