The Polecat

The characteristic audacity of this small mammal leads them to delve fearlessly into any hole, hoping to force out their victims.

The polecat, is a fierce and courageous mustelid, unafraid to take on dangerous enemies.
Riparian forests are ideal for the polecat, which, although not good swimmer, will take advantage of the varied food ecosystem
of the lush shores and surroundings.

These members of the weasel family are generalised predators (Ex: Weasel, ferret, marten, badger, mink…) and their broad diet includes rodents, rabbits and voles. They also hunt birds, amphibians, crustaceans, fish and even snakes.
The characteristic audacity of this small mammal leads them to delve fearlessly into any hole, hoping to force out their victims.
But it seems that this snake is bigger than the polecat had realised. Although it is not poisonous, it is both nearly twice the size of the hunter and is a constrictor. At any moment, the tables could be turned. The snake is surprised by the insistence and ferocity of the polecat, but if the hunter fails to sink its fangs near the base of the snake’s skull, the constrictor could still make its escape.
This prey was too much for the polecat, and the expenditure of energy has been immense. But nothing is too dangerous to deter the brave polecat, and it will soon find new sources of food in this prolific riverbank forest.
