The tribe somba belong to one of the most primitive peoples of Africa, the betamaribe.
The somba tribe live in mud houses called tata.
When a tata is going to be built, they prepare a great mass of mud ... and leave a branch on it; If the branch has not flown the next day, it means that the spirits are agree. Only the specialists build them. The caste of the builders is very well seen.
The clay with which the tatas are built is a mixture of clays that is not mixed with straw, or with grass, and that when hardening remains like a stone.
